Netball v Bidborough & St Johns

On Wednesday 14th October, St. James' A team went to Skinners Academy to play matches against Bidborough and St. Johns.

Our first match was against Bidborough, we played well but unfortunately lost 3-1.

Our second match was against St. Johns', unfortunately we also lost this match.

St. Johns' were a very strong team and they had a very tall goal shooter. Bidborough too were a good team, with a very strong defence.

We all had a great time and thank you Mr Chandler for driving us there, and to Mrs Waller, for organising the matches. Thank you Mrs Moriarty and Mrs Mesher for coaching and supporting us.

Team; Eve, Francesca S, Sophie, Alice, Hannah, Vicky and Isobel.

A Team

On Wednesday 7th October St. James’ A Football team went to Claremont to play a match. The game kicked off and we had possession. We had lots of shots and so did Claremont, but both keepers kept strong. Then late into the first half we had an attack. Joe B put through a ball, Joe T chased it and he was one on one with the keeper, before calmly putting it past him. It was then half time. Claremont had a quick break and had a shot from long range, Josh pulled off an amazing save! They took the corner quickly and Joe T headed it clear. There was a break and Joe B smashed it up the pitch, Claremont’s keeper came out and miss kicked the ball, Joe then took it round the keeper and scored a great goal the final score was 2-0 to St. James’. We all played very well.

Thank you Mrs Waller and Keith for taking and supporting us.

Joe T and Josh were named ‘Men of the Match’.

Team: Josh, Joe W, Joe B, Joe T, Amir, Lewis, Joel and Miller.

B Team

On Wednesday 7th October St. James’ B Football team went to play Claremont B team. The match kicked off and we had a dodgy start. But before half time Spencer ran through the defence and scored. In the second half we started well and Spencer scored another goal to make it 2-0 to us. Towards the end of the match Shakane shot and hit the keeper. After that they had a great attack, but a great save by Max denied them the goal. The whistle blew and we had won 3-0.

Thank you Mrs Waller for organising it and Mrs Simkins for driving us there.

Team: Max, Tommy, Harry, Jordan, Dean, Shakane, Jonny, Spencer and Kyle.

- 7 October 2009 00:59 - GeneralHorton Kirby 2009

On Monday 28th September 5 alpha went to Horton Kirby to see the river Darent, for our topic on Rivers.

When we got to Horton Kirby Education Centre, it was an old Victorian school.

We put on our wellies and went in to our classroom. We met our teacher Mr. Cliffe and then walked down the hill to Westminster Bridge where we played Pooh sticks.

Afterwards we all went into the river and did an experiment with three balls to see how fast the river was going, we repeated that two more times. A little while later we measured the width and depth of the river. We found out that the depth of the river was affected by the weir and the bridge.

Then we walked along to a meander and we could see the bend and how it had eroded. We got the three balls out again at Franks Bridge. The river flowed fastest on the far side. We found out that where the twigs and sand went the river didn’t flow very fast.

When we got back to the centre we had lunch in the playground with the Victorian toys. After that we went to the classroom.

We had a brilliant day. Thank you Mr. Cliffe.
