All the balloons and tags are bio-degradable and safe to the environment.

Children from the infant and junior school will take part. The PFA will also hand over to both the infant and the junior school a large cheque, which the junior school plans to use to furnish the new Science room.

Harry was unlucky with a couple of chips over the cross bar. Before we knew it, it was half time. Half way through the second half Jonny scored a brilliant goal to put us in the lead. We tried hard from then on, but couldn't get another goal. We were very happy with our first win. Thank you Mrs Waller for organising it and thank you to all the parents who supported us.

- 17 October 2008 01:11 - GeneralVictorian Afternoon

On the 17th of October 2008, year 6 had a Victorian afternoon!

First of all we had a normal school morning but after lunch we travelled back to Victorian times. We got dressed up into our outfits and then went outside to play. After being called into line boys on the one side with Master Smith and the girls (or ‘ladies’) with Mistress Church, we had ‘drill’ and then marched around the playground before going into the hall, with the boys going through one door and girls through the other. We sang a hymn called ‘I heard the voice of Jesus say’, before reciting the Lords Prayer and starting lessons.

The first lesson was literacy and we did handwriting. We had to copy posh capital letters into our copy books. Then we did arithmetic and it was very hard. After this, we recited poetry, one poem was called ‘November Song’ and the other was about time:

‘60 seconds make a minute’
’60 minutes make an hour’
’24 hours a day hath in it’
‘Use each well with all your power’

During the hand writing, Mistress Church spotted a terrible mistake that Daniel made; he was using his left hand! He was punished by being caned. Mistress Church demanded that he started again but with his right hand and another boy had his copy book up torn up in front of everyone because it was so untidy!

Suddenly Master Smith stopped counting his money and stood up abruptly. He slowly walked to the front of the hall and bellowed for Max to stand. “WHERE IS YOUR ONE PENNY?”
“I don’t have any money, sir” stuttered Max.
“NO MONEY!” said Master Smith, “Headmasters office, NOW”!
After 10 minutes Mr. Chandler came and lectured us about how important our one penny’s are. Then he talked to us about an inspector coming and stormed out!

It was a great experience and we all enjoyed dressing up and acting in character.

The TeamOn Wednesday 8th October St. James A team played a match against Paddock Wood. We had some good chances in the first minutes of the match. Then we got a free kick which Ollie took and Haytham headed into the goal. Then they equalized to make the score 1-1. Minutes later they scored again, we then got a corner which Ollie took and Haytham again headed into the goal. Shortly after that we got another corner which the cross bar denied Haytham from getting a hat trick. At half time the score was 2-2. Not long after the kick off for the second half they scored. Then Joe W scored an amazing goal from nothing! Then Paddock Wood broke through our defence to score again. The final score was 4-3 to them. - 8 October 2008 01:52 - GeneralRugby

On Sunday 5th October Tunbridge Juddians U10’s went to Foxbury to play in a rugby tournament.

Our first game was against Beckenham. We had a solid win of 6-0. Our next game was against Cranbrook, who defended well and the final score was 0-0. Our third game was against Sidcup, which we won 2-0. Our last group game was against Bromley, we drew 0-0, but this was enough to get to the cup final. It was against Westcombe Park.

The game was amazing and our defence was strong even though we were very close to our try line. The final score was 0-0, so the cup was shared.

- 2 October 2008 01:03 - GeneralHorton Kirby

On Monday 29th September 5 Alpha went by coach to Horton Kirby to see the River Darenth, for our topic on rivers.

When we got the Horton Kirby we went to the Education Centre, which was an old Victorian school. We went into the school room and met our guide, Mr Cliffe. We all put on our Wellington boots and walked down to Westminster Bridge and played ‘pooh sticks’. The point of which was to see which direction the river flowed. Then we went down to the bank of the river and did our first experiment.

Children went into the river with a big tape measure and measured 10m, from the bridge, down the river. We had nine coloured sponge balls, 3 red, 3 green and 3 blue. Nine children went into the river and had a ball each and stood in front of the bridge. Some more children stood 10m down the river to catch the balls and also to record the time with stopwatches. The experiment was repeated 2 more times. The point of the experiment was to see which part of the river flowed the fastest. The temperature of the water and the air temperature were also measured and the results recorded by children standing on the bank. After this experiment we measured the width of the river and the depth at every metre, the near side of the river was deeper than the far side, where there was a lot of deposition.

We then walked to a meander in the river where the ground on the outside of the bend was eroding rapidly. Our guide said that the tree there would fall at some time in the future. When we got back to the school room he showed us some photo’s of the same bank in the past and we could see how much the bank had eroded.

We walked on down the river to repeat the experiment just before Franks Bridge. We found that the river flowed fastest on the far side. This was different to the first experiment at Westminster Bridge. Near the bank where the river was slowest there was deposition of twigs and sand. We also walked in the river towards the bridge against the current to feel its strength. The current was not very strong, but our guide said that when the river was deeper the current would be stronger.

On the walk back to the centre we walked over Franks Bridge and saw flat land, called a flood plain. Back at the centre we were hungry and had lunch in a lovely playground and played with the Victorian toys. Mr Cliffe showed us slides of the river which showed where the source and the mouth of the river were.

We had an amazing day, thank you Mr Cliffe.
