On Wednesday 6th May the St. James’ Swimming Team went to St. John’s pool to compete in the Primary Schools Gala.
We had a great start to the Gala as we won our first race. It carried on like this as we won almost all of our races.
We also had two divers, Francesca S and Louis A. They came second, Louis missed out on first place by half a point.
Using our fantastic teamwork and effort we came first out of all the Primary Schools in Tunbridge Wells and also went home with seven trophies!
Thank you very much to Mrs Waller and Simon Killick (for coaching us). Also to Mr Chandler and Mr Smith, Mrs Ingman and everyone else who came along to support us. We would not have won without you.
Swimming Squad; Maddy MS, Tom S, Louis A, Jack N, Natasha Day, Lewis K, Rebekah B, Ellie S, Jessica M, Jonny K, Max L, Hannah J, Simon N, Zach K, Francesca S and Charlotte W.
The team had six swimmers in the open finals and Charlotte was the overall winner of the race and received a cup, which she holds for a year. Congratulations to her.
Both of the team’s divers got through to the final, and improved as the competition went on.
The team won the boy’s relay race, the girl’s relay race, the mixed medley race and broke the record for speed in the race.
All the team won individual medals and certificates.
The team were overall winners of the Gala. The school last won the gala in 2004.
Simon Killick was thanked for coaching the team to their success.
Report by Maddy and Ellie.
Last Saturday Simon, Max and I went to Gillingham for the second part of the Kent Swimming Gala.
I was the first to swim, 50m breaststroke, but unfortunately I didn’t qualify. Sadly Max and Simon didn’t qualify either, but the good thing for them was that they both had personal best times.
Thank you, to Mrs Waller for organising us and to Mr Killick for supporting us.
