On Wednesday 5th November 8 children from St. James’ went to the Skinners field for a cross country race. There were four children from years 3 and 4, and four children from years 5 and 6. There were seven teams in total, including ours. Years 3 & 4 had a race which was a kilometre long and year 5 & 6 had another which was a mile long.

At the start of the race we all lined up to wait for the starting horn. It was very wet and muddy so lots of people fell over. St. James’ all started towards the front and managed to stay in the first half of the group all the way through. There were more than 50 children in the year 3/4 race and in the end, Madeleine finished 26th, Ben, came 5th, James came 3rd and Joel finished 2nd overall. All our team finished, and because we had all done so well St. James’ won the cup for this race.

After the year 3/4 race it was the year 5/6 race. This was a mile long and half of it was uphill which made it very tiring! We all did really well. Toby R finished 1st, with Alice in 8th place, Oliver in 9th place and Daniel in 13th. One hundred and six children took part in this race. Overall St. James gained 31 points which meant they won the trophy.
